Music City Whisper:
Will Andy Become a Bee Gee?

For the past years people have been saying that success is a family affair for the Gibb brothers, but this ain't necessarily so. Three Gibbs stick together and younger brother, Andy, does the lonesome bit. The only burning thing is that Andy is not sharing the 100% pure, unadulterated happiness his brothers are having layed on them. The media has been giving Andy a rough time while he sells records to fans who claim he can do no wrong. Newsies say that the younger Gibb's separated wife back in Australia is having a gross go of things, living on charity with her infant daughter.
The other three Gibbs live in bliss, Maurice and Barry are happily wed and love Florida's sunshine, while brother Robin has his pad in jolly old England, or the U.K. as he puts it. Twenty year old Andy only lives a few miles away from his brothers in Florida but a million miles in ever patching up his marital troubles with his wife of 14 months, Kim, who has told reporters from The Star that her family is keeping her alive, "not Andy's."
There are those who feel that Andy is the kind of a boy who doesn't do the lonesome thing very well and their evidence is the fact that he seems to be spending more and more hours with his brothers since he breakup with Kim.
For the other Gibb,s fame is not a problem, but they feel that is could be something unsettling Andy. Their father, Hugh, was a bandleader for thirty years and their mother, Barbara, a big band singer. The Gibb who encouraged the boys to go into show biz, she also held them together with love, the same love that is liable to make a Bee Gee out of Andy.
"I hear he is working out with the guys every day," a record producer said in confidence to this magazine," and I'm dead sure that announcement will come out any second that Andy has decided he has had it being Mr. Lonely and has joined his brothers."
The difficulty with Kim seems to weigh heavily on him as reporters carve him up and give out with all sorts of unsubstantiated things that Kim is supposed to be saying concerning how "cruel" Andy is.
"I he isn't listening," a friend said. "I know him well and I can't believe that he has cut off ties with her and his little baby. Andy just isn't like that."
So these days the whispers have it that Andy is tired of being alone and will soon join his brothers on a new album and that will kick off the new Bee Gees group. Ask RSO records and they have no comment. Same with the brothers and with Andy.
But we have. And we believe, man, we believe! It may not happen as soon as our friend predicted, but just like winter comes and spring follows, just like the Bee Gees sing top of the chart, just like Andy Gibb is one of the most talented guys around., it will happen, just watch and see!
